Welcome![edit]

The Idea Fab Labs is a member-driven creation zone located in Chico, CA. The Idea Fab Labs facility is a 6,900 sq. ft. building, four blocks from CSU, Chico with multiple workspaces, access to standard and high-tech tools, a large gallery, a loading dock, indoor and outdoor areas for group activities, and an active community of makers, designers, artists, programmers and more. We offer membership usage of various digital fabrication tools and traditional tools and work zones: Laser Cutter, 3D Printer, 3D scanning, woodshop, electronics, jewelry, and textiles.

We facilitate educational classes and workshops including weekly scheduled Safety and Basic Use classes as well as a rotating catolog of offerings on more advanced and specialized topics, including guest teachers. We provide a channel for consumption of technologically inspired artistry.

Open house is on Thursday from 6:30pm-9:30pm.

Innovation[edit]

Idea Fab Labs is an open environment meant to foster innovation through hands-on learning and collaboration. Idea Fab Labs encourages an open source culture.

Design[edit]

Design is a big part of digital fabrication. Tools such as the Laser Cutter and 3D Printer allow for rapid prototyping, allowing for a project to go from concept to physical reality in moments. This results in quick development of new design ideas as a rapid succession of prototypes can be created, tested, and improved on.

Education[edit]

Idea Fab Lab is a learning environment. Members may take and teach classes, lectures or workshops and peer-to-peer learning and open-source cooperation are encouraged.

Arts[edit]

Science is beautiful. Idea Fab Labs Gallery showcases cutting edge technology based artworks. Leading artists from around the world are invited to participate in the Idea Fab Labs Artist Residency Program, during which the artists will have access to the digital fabrication facilities to create a new body of work. These artworks are featured in month-long gallery shows.

LED Ceiling[edit]

Idea Fab Lab hosts a 2880 LED pixel array spanning 1600 sq ft of ceiling in the main room. Each pixel is encased in a three dimensional, laser-cut light diffusion cell, measuring 4 by 4 inches by 2 inches deep. [1]

Tech-Art Incubation Program[edit]

Come be a part of an innovative art experiment. Our mission is to explore the line where Art and Technology meet by giving artists (you) access to a large industrial facility, cutting-edge digital fabrication tools, and a community of talented and inspired makers. Resident Artists are invited to use the 7,000 sq ft facilities and equipment (laser cutter, 3D printer, screen printer, hand tools, wood shop, electronics benches, studio space, etc) during an intensive incubation and residency. Most artists’ residencies will culminate in a gallery exhibition and opening event. Read more about the program at our website [2].
