Hackspace catania is based on the concept of Hacking, which is defined as : " The re-design of a system to function in ways not intended by the owner , administrator, or designer ". Hackspace Catania is a non profit organization run entirely by its members, where people with common interests , computers, technology , science, art and digital electronics, can meet, socialize and / or collaborate. The hackspace can be viewed as open community labs incorporating elements of workshops and / or artistic studies where people meet to share resources, tools and knowledge to build things or carry out projects .

Members have access to the equipment, tools and services that the association provides . The use is governed by an internal code .

Hackspace Catania is always expanding. At present, services are divided into three main areas:

- Learning Zone : for meetings, seminars, courses , movies , gaming events , debates , demonstrations , presentations and exhibitions.

- Area Workshop : equipped for small works in wood, metal, paper, cloth, electronic, electrical or plastics materials.

- Creative Zone : to work on internal projects or hackspace projects. With 3d Printer , milling machine, cutting plotter, printer a3 , Audiobooth for voice recordings , desk still life , softbox video / photo, chromakey , a relaxation area used as a retrogaming with Commodore 64 , Amiga 1200 and mame emulator .

Courses

Video compositing, sound design, 2d animation, DTP publishing, 3D printing; Arduino, coding, video projection mapping, 3D Modeling and Video Editing.
