Here's a simple beginning:

  • Find some cool people and write your purpose, this will crystalize your space's identity.
  • Collect some sweet hardware, install linux on computers that work,
  • Provide some social space, chalk/whiteboards are good, desks, couches
  • Turn on the wifi

You could literally start with that little of planning.

A hackerspace can mean many things to many people. But here's some common elements:

  • A community space
  • A technical and creative space
  • A collective desire among members to have a better world than the current wasteland of our industrial society

Some common elements of what it isn't:

  • A place focussing on commercialization of talent or products
  • A place of or supporting violence or drugs
  • A place that is annoyed by differences.
