There'll be no foolish wand-waving or silly incantations. As such, it is not expected that many of you will appreciate the subtle science and exact art of potion-making... However, for those select few... -- Severus Snape.
Potions and potioncraft are the handiwork of the druids and witches and are bottled in a flask or gourd (afrikan potions). Altogether, this is called a philtre. They generally start with an oil base (apricot, corn, neem oil, etc.) and then add various tinctures, extractives, flavorings, and such. The druid must understand that the power is strictly from ingredients, not chemical reactions (except perhaps for effect). This is a tricky art that the maker must perfect -- conveying the magic to the recipient so that it is exactly as effective as it was intended. Dark cobalt vials are the traditional container for such concoctions.
Because of these reasons, such crafts are typically in a guild, so that the ingredients may be kept private, and their power vouchsafed. Potions are the handiwork of druids, in the same way that spellmeads are the work of mages.
