As delivered by an analyst from the oil industry itself, to MIT, at or around 2001, oil has hit peak production in 2012.

This means the economic system, which was predicated on this unearned labor done by the Earth, will need another source of value generation. The Internet and Hackerspaces remain one of the best hopes for humanity.

Peak production means that while oil hasn't run out, it will no longer be extracted at greater rates to accomidate the lazy and insane population of the G20 economies. Keep in mind that that oil respresents over a billion years of stored solar credit, and it was spent wastefully in the interval of about 200 years. Further, that that oil was not made by the ingenuity of capitalism, but by the Earth, and belonged to all of us. Act accordingly.
