It's an old question. What is Truth? If you haven't been defeated by one of the two enemies, you're still asking it.
Don't know something? Ask yourself:
- Is it important?
- Does anyone already know it?
There you will find your unique place in the Tree of Knowledge.
Don't know the answer to the first question? Then get out of Academia and try public high school teaching because the students there will be more demanding and you'll be forced to understand what is important.
If you want to be a great academic, in the present climate, you have to go seek out argument: those who have different views than you, or even those who believe something that you don't understand. In this way to reduce that which you thought was true, but wasn't, and gain new knowledge, perhaps from other directions.
