Like capitalism, the virtues and vices of collectivism should be understood before embarking on any revolutions.

Virtues:

  • Common ownership that allows everyone to share in otherwise expensive capital assets
  • A shared bond of working together toward common goals

Vices:

  • Little incentive to differentiate oneself which can lead towards homogeneity, if left to itself
  • Abuse of shared resources since no one "owns" it.

The creative spark comes from individuals, not group-mind. Like capitalism, collectivism (socialism, communism) must be managed or cross-checked to hold its ideals. And like capitalism, few seem to understand how to do it.

Strangely, the key to understanding it, is to understand the (U.S.) Constitution.
