The traditional style of organizational managment: one person is in charge. It can work if the person treats everyone as an equal (benevolent), but needs high levels of competence to be respected. Additionally, they have to be able to bring in funding -- not a simple task. Its advantage is a sole point of final say and accountability, allowing things to happen quickly (like a do-ocracy) and place blame (like a bureaucracy). But if the leader isn't competent, eventually everyone loses respect and the organization falls. OR, if they aren't accessible, the organization runs like a headless ameoba and the organization loses direction.

It has shown success in Open Source projects, where they are commonly called BDFLs: Benevolent Dictators For Life.
