Pandemic

This page documents how hackspaces are affected by and deal with pandemics and the circumstances surrounding them; topically to the 2020s, the COVID-19 ("coronavirus") pandemic in particular.

Besides the health dimension, there is a financial dimension: with members not coming in and therefore not buying memberships, materials, Club-Mates etc., many spaces are feeling revenue stress increased above the background level.

On a somewhat brighter note, hackspaces can help communities affected by pandemics, since practical skills and resources for independence help relieve some of the symptoms of withdrawal from interdependence; an iconic example is production of face masks using textile tools.
