The aptly titled "Project Workshop" was started in the Summer of 2011 by members of NYC2600 to provide mutual support and encouragement for their projects, especially those technical in nature. The Workshop exists strictly for work on these projects and is explicitly not intended to be a social event. Though the venue is a bustling shared space, talking amongst Workshop members is discouraged, except as it pertains to the work at hand. That being said, the Workshop is an opportunity for hackers to put their works in progress on exhibition, both for each other, and the public at large.
At the moment, the Project Workshop meets every second and fourth Friday, e.g., Fridays that are neither 2600 nor NYC Hacker Community Dinner. People generally start to trickle in at around 6:00PM, and hang out until the venue kicks them out around 12:00AM. The Workshop is usually on the second or third floor, and is easy to find because there will be people sitting at a table covered with laptops, hardware, programming books, and energy drinks. The Google Group is worth signing up for to receive more up-to-date information and discussion.
