MEETING MINUTES 12/1/2013[edit]
in attendance:[edit]
Ingrid, Austin
discussed:[edit]
- needs
- outreach
- next steps
notes:[edit]
needs from project:[edit]
ingrid:
- an inclusive space where people feel WELCOME (particularly folks who normally don’t feel welcome in tech spaces, or who normally are made to feel like they don’t know things: read women, people of color, queer folks, etc.)
- space to check*in on work and projects
- a social, connected work space
- space for workshops and breakouts to form around specific projects and goals
- drop*in hours
austin:
- inclusive and welcoming space (STRONG CONSENSUS around this point)
- space for novices; novices included in formation of space from jump
- access and skill*building as a political project
- a space in which we all feel free, a space we feel like we own (“a room of our own”)
- reclaim a zuccotti we can actually have (ie: take good parts we liked about that large, unwiedly space and make them work on a smaller, more discreet scale)
- space that is attentive to meeting the personal needs of all of its members
ingrid & austin:
- space that is systemically political vs. situationally political (ie: prefigurative space instead of space that runs campaigns)
- concrete, finite, manageable paramaters
- clearly defined boundaries (what are they?)
- clearly defined paths of access (and exclusion, where necessary)
- successful experiment in self government
- “do-ocracy”
