About Labitat[edit]

Labitat is a Copenhagen-based hackerspace. The housing contract was signed early December 2009, and the space is now fully functional, with talk of expanding into an adjacent area. Currently looking to upgrade to a larger/better space. Should you know of any avaiable or might like to share a bigger space, do contact us

We hold weekly meetings / hack-nights as well as workshops to draw in new members. See for instance our recent Arduino workshop.

What is Labitat?[edit]

Labitat is a hackerspace in Copenhagen where anyone can come and work on free and open software and hardware projects, or anything else really! Composed of people of different tongues we aim to provide a friendly and creative setting, where we switch to English as soon as needed. First Buckler Workshop[edit]

On the 25th of October 2009, Labitat held a free workshop to help people learn about electronics and how to program and solder. We had a day long session where those who signed up in time got to make and program The Buckler, as explained below.

The Buckler[edit]

The interactive kit used for the workshop. Consists of a motion sensor, a chip for wireless communication and 128 LEDs as a simple display unit. Devised by Labitat for use as a teaching platform and code and design is available under a Open Source license.

The Buckler was created as a teaching platform for use in a digital electronics workshops that take beginners from introduction to soldering and programming, to a working stand-alone interactive module.

It has taken the form of an Arduino shield with the following main components:

The Buckler uses breakout boards from Sparkfun for the SMD components, so everything that needs to be soldered is through-hole.
