eLab is an Hackerspace located in the south of Portugal.

It's a space for individual and collaborative project development, and sharing of knowledge and resources, to build and make things through the power of community. Everything from opening old appliances and hardware hacking to organizing workshops and project presentations. Some of our areas of interest include: electronics, robotics, automation, programming, internet of things, space exploration, biology, oceanography, meteorology, geography, digital fabrication, arts & crafts, among others.

We promote open software and hardware.

eLab Hackerpace was founded in 2011 by Electrical and Electronic Engineering students of the University of Algarve and has since been operating inside the University Campus, making it the first Hackerspace inside a Portuguese University.

Since May of 2016 eLab Hackerspace is recognized as an official research laboratory by the University of the Algarve.

The Founding Members of eLab Hackerspace are:

  • João Duarte [1]
  • Mário Saleiro [2]
  • Gonçalo Pereira [3]
  • Hugo Santos [4]

Membership[edit]

eLab Hackerspace welcomes anyone who feels they can contribute. Visitors are also welcome at the open weekly meetings, other public events, as well as take part in classes on a variety of subjects. Visiting beyond this can be arranged on a case by case basis, depending on the availability of members.

Physical Space[edit]

In May 2016 eLab Hackerspace moved into a new space located in the university's business center. The 70m² room has a micro kitchen area, a workshop/meeting table, two workshop tables, a 3D printing area and two electronics workbenches. eLab Hackerspace is a proud owner of three 3D printers: a Lulzbot Taz 4, a Kossel Mini and a Blocks One. We also have a CNC machine and a Metal Melting Furnace that we recently built. Several electronics projects and equipment boxes populate some of the workbenches and shelves.
