Richmond MakerLabs is in the Greater London Area and the first MakerSpace of its kind in the local area (Richmond Council).
We have a venue in Ham, located inside a council-sponsored building known as Little House, and can remain there as long as we benefit the local community.
Drop-in visitors from the area are welcome - asking for help, troubleshooting technology, or the desire to learn new skills. We welcome and encourage all types as any new visitor can be a potential 'Hacker' (in the traditional sense of the word). This might be for an electronics project, a computer project, digital art, or something related to community improvement. A voluntary donation of £1 or greater is asked of everyone visiting to manage our space costs.
Since the projects are of community interest, free (as in libre) open source software and hardware is strongly recommended - sustainability and usability is a core value of ours.
We also believe in the 'DIY' ethos - you make it, you break it, you fix it again. It is our intention that to help fix/build/enhance something, it's of benefit to everyone, rather than just getting something blindly repaired without learning. Anyone can do this stuff with a little encouragement!
People and local organisations also come by and donate stuff (technology, tools, sundries and more) or leave equipment on loan for our small community to constructively use.
