History

The name Pixelbar was founded around 2013 when 4 of our earliest members were joined together in one of the famous “Hacking Weekends”. These weekends existed for the sole purpose of having fun, creating stuff with electronics and programming.

CampZone

Most of the members knew eachother from an event called CampZone. CampZone was an 11-day outdoor LAN event. On this event, we found that most of the attendees in our tent were interested in more than gaming. For us CampZone slowly turned around to be an hacking event instead of a gaming event.

These days we even call our tent: “Tent - Pixelbar” Because most of the people in this tent have allready joined (or will be joining) The Pixelbar Hackerspace.

The next step

Most of the Pixelbar meetings took place at the home of any of the friends. Even though we had lots of fun at these meetingsaAround August 2015 we decided to take a step forward. David and Miep went to the notary and Pixelbar was officially founded. A location was found fast at the Keilewerf in Rotterdam. The Keilewerf was pleased to create housing for a new hackerspace.

Devastating Fire

On 28 June 2023 a fire completely destroyed Keilewerf 1 and ~48 spaces and workshops inside. Unfortunately this included Pixelbar. Projects and stuff that had been stored at Pixelbar were destroyed and Pixelbar had to start over.
