Brian Whaley

DIY Harpsichord

Come meet other Makers from the Washington, DC metro area!

Have you ever thought about building a musical instrument? Brian Whaley did. With a long musical history and a love of early music, he always wanted a harpsichord but couldn't afford to buy one. What better way is there to get what you want than to build it? With a few projects under his belt, he wanted to go for it. Luckily, a friend of a friend gave him a very old kit he was never going to assemble. Armed with some basic tools and lots of free time, Brian now has a harpsichord.

As an engineer, Brian continues to delight in building things out of wood primarily using hand tools in his home shop. More of his projects can be seen on his website at

Come out to see how he did it!
