Peak Energy is a concept of planetary energy consumption when it reaches 1/2 of total solar gain. For Earth, this has been calculated to be in about 200 years, given historical growth rates.

The concept is critically imoprtant because if a civilization reaches consumption that exceeds solar gain, it has reached a point of self-destruction -- it cannot sustain itself. Nuclear would not save the planet, because your total heat output would become double of sun.

In any cases, without radical changes to the structure of the socio-political sphere, our present situation would create a runaway process to complete devestation.
